Every member was deeply saddened by the passing after a short illness of Bill Erskine a founding member of our Club this year. Bill was a lovely man, popular with all who knew him. He had a wide knowledge of all things nautical and was a keen and accomplished sailor as well as a regular rower and much in demand Cox. Together with a small group, Bill was central to the successful regattas that FOCCR have delivered over the last few years. Bill’s work as the beachmaster helped to ensure a safe and successful event. Above all, he could always be found at the Fairlie Boat Builders shed when one of our two skiffs were under maintenance. The hours of skilled workmanship that Bill contributed to both building and maintaining our skiffs was without equal and was to the benefit many rowers. Above all, Bill was an unassuming man with a strong love for his family and commitment to his many friends in the sailing and rowing communities. He will be sadly missed.
